  • 2 to 3 ripe pears (about 11 ounces), chopped in 1-inch cubes
  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/2 cup canola or other neutral-tasting oil, plus more for greasing the loaf pan
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • Scant 1/2 cup rye flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3/4 cup roughly chopped bittersweet chocolate (at least 65 percent cacao)
